Essential Oils and Aromatherapy
When it comes to essential oils, most of us have a preconceived notion about where we stand. There are some things that come naturally to some, and with much convincing to others. Essential oils are often one of those things. For those of you who have never heard of essential oils, or don’t know where to start, here is a quick explainer for you all!
What They Are
First things first, these plant extracts are most commonly used in aromatherapy, but they have plenty of uses beyond that including skincare and haircare! For this post, we’ll focus on the benefits in aromatherapy specifically because there are plenty to get through! Essential oils are the potent compounds, or the “essence”, of the plant. Pretty much any plant can have an essential oil, and that’s why there are so many essential oil sets out there to try from! You can harness anything from anxiety-relief, tension reduction, clear air that removes toxins, and so much more! I personally love using essential oils to improve my focus while I work and luckily I have a whole essential oil set that contains my go-to oils to pull out whenever I need. If you’re wondering how to use these wondrous oils in your day-to-day life, let me break down how they work for aromatherapy.
How To Use For Aromat
If you’re using a diffuser, there really is no easier way to use your essential oil set than by placing a few drops of essential oil into your diffuser. I’m a big fan of diffusers because they are an easy and effective way to harness the power of aromatherapy. I remember the first time that I was given an essential oil gift set and thinking, well, I don’t know the first thing about aromatherapy, how am I supposed to use this wonderful gift? After a little research, I came to the conclusion that the easiest way to make the most of essential oils is through diffusion. It’s the hassle-free way to deal with essential oils.
One of the most important things to remember when it comes to essential oils is the fact that they’re not meant to be swallowed! You can use it on the skin when you mix it with an appropriate carrier oil. Some people harness the lavender in their essential oil set, mix it with a carrier oil and apply it to their wrists or temples to experience the anxiety-reducing effects.
My Story
I personally used to struggle with falling asleep at night. I’ve always been reluctant to try sleeping pills, even the herbal supplements, for two main reasons. Firstly, they can become addictive very easily and secondly, I find that I wake up much more drowsy the next morning. With this in mind, when I received my essential oil gift set I was thrilled at the opportunity to try lavender oil as a sleep aid. I can tell you that it works! I just place a few drops into my diffuser half an hour before I plan on hitting the sheets and switch off the diffuser before I drift off. Try it for yourself and see.
