How To Overcome Work Boredom
We’ve all been there. Working is not always fun and games, and sometimes you don’t have enough stimulation to really get you through the day. For some people this boredom could stem from the fact that they’re working from home, and for others it could be due to the fact that they’re just not interested in the particular task at hand. Let’s take a closer look at how to overcome work boredom, so you can live your best life in the office.
Boredom stems from a lack of productivity. If you want to avoid work boredom, find what it is that triggers your lack of productivity and motivation. It might not be a short list but it will be useful in the long run to help you pinpoint the symptom of your boredom. It could be then that you allocate these “less productive” trigger tasks to certain parts of the day that you know are often bust and stimulating. For example, get your trigger tasks done before lunchtime with the coworkers. Or complete the trigger tasks after a particularly stimulating weekly meeting. You can’t schedule these tasks at the right time until you identify what exactly the triggers are.
Task List
This is the basics of productivity. If you want to be productive you need to have a daily checklist that you’re working through. Every day needs to have its set tasks and not just arbitrarily thrown together. There should be thought put into which tasks are happening when. For example, in most cases it would be unwise to leave your email inbox to the last task of the day. Start your day by going through your emails and move forward from there. The point is that when your day is so precisely planned out, there is little time for boredom. Even if you don’t enjoy a particular task, there isn’t time to procrastinate it because everything on your list is timed for this day. Anything that spills into tomorrow means that tomorrow will be a particularly busy day. So, this will prevent you from getting bored because you will simply be too busy throughout each day!
It might sound counterintuitive, but taking breaks is one of the best ways to fight work boredom. Sitting all day at your desk with your eyes locked on a screen does not bode well for optimal concentration levels. You will find yourself feeling mentally tired within a short period of time and your brain basically clocks out for the day, leading to boredom. With this in mind, taking regular breaks can be a great way to ensure that your mind stays fresh and focused for the time that you are sat at your desk. Keep the breaks short – maybe 5 minutes every hour. It’s good for your body and brain to relax a little to help reduce boredom and encourage productivity.
